A fire broke out on June 7 In Tamu town, Sagaing division western Burma, at 6:30 am and gutted six houses at least one of which had explosives, arms and ammunition.

The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in Mr. Mya Win’s home. He is a Myo Thit block in Tamu town on the Indo-Myanmar border. The fire ignited explosives arms and ammunition stored in the house.

A report said that Mya Win’s house was rented by Mr. Jonny who is a member of the Meitei underground insurgent group. He was staying with his two followers in the house. Jonny and one of his followers have been arrested by the LIB in Tamu district while another has fled.

“As far as I know they had rented the house seven years ago. I don’t know how much they paid for it. I heard the sound of a big explosion just before I got up. At the same time I heard someone shouting ‘don’t move, hide and don’t go outside’. This was followed by more explosions,” said a local.

Splinters from the explosion hit Mr. Kyaw Soe as he and his friend Mr. Win Min were rushing to the scene of the fire. Kyaw Soe is from the Gorkhali tribe.

“Kyaw Soe has lost one of his arms and he received serious injuries on the leg and has been admitted to hospital,” he added.

One of the burnt houses of the six was used as a candle factory. The fore spread and burnt everything. Fortunately it was raining just before the fire broke out preventing further damage. Only two fire engines could arrive in time. Khonumthung News
