A fire in Hakha city

30 March 2009: Six houses were gutted and reduced to ashes in a fire in Hakha city in Chin state, Burma, on March 26, 2009.

A local person reported that the fire had started at around 9 pm from a candle in Myotit Block and it gradually spread to other houses. The fire was put out at 11 pm by the local people.

Flames from a candle burnt a mosquito net and after that the fire spread to five other houses one after another. The owners of the houses have been identified as Pu Hrang Uk, Ngun Tlung Pa, Mang Thar, Thawng Er, Sang Ki and Pu Kyaw Uk. Although there have been no casualties, all six houses were reduced to rubble, he added.

The fire department of Hakha City arrived in time to put out the fire, but they brought inadequate quantity water and the fire could not be put out for some time. On the other hand, with the help of local people it was put out at 11 p. m.

Frequent outbreak of fire, is known to happen in Chin state. In last February too, a fire had broken out and destroyed 26 houses in Varung village, in Falam Township.

This is the second time, such an incident has happened in Hakha city, the last one had occurred on January 10 and it had destroyed three houses. – Khonumthung News
